Geïnspireerd door de wijsheid van Hildegard von Bingen. Een installatie ontworpen om een diepe verbinding te bevorderen met onszelf, de natuur en het grotere geheel.
Dit is het eerste resultaat van mijn kunstenaarsresidentie (2024-2029) voor het onderzoeksproject Planetaire Gezondheid als Existentiële Uitdaging (ECoPH), VU Amsterdam, ondersteund door NWO.

Concept
Within a root system appear the limbs and faces of Isadora Duncan, the dancer who liberated the female body from corset and convention. Her movements, inspired by natural forces, return as a dryad: mythical, earthy, and untamed. Around 1900, Duncan took dance into her own hands and placed her body in the foreground, parallel to the struggle for women's suffrage. Freedom of movement became a political and cultural statement, an image of female autonomy. This emancipation also influenced clothing and fragrance. With Tabac Blond (1919), floral perfumes gave way to a smoky tobacco note, fitting for women who worked, wore trousers, and embodied new freedoms.
In een wortelstelsel verschijnen ledematen en gezichten van Isadora Duncan, de danseres die het vrouwenlichaam bevrijdde uit korset en conventie. Haar door natuurkrachten geïnspireerde bewegingen keren terug als een dryade: mythisch, aards en ongetemd. Rond 1900 nam Duncan de dans in eigen handen en plaatste ze haar lichaam op de voorgrond, parallel aan de strijd voor vrouwenstemrecht. Bewegingsvrijheid werd een politiek en cultureel statement, een beeld van vrouwelijke autonomie. Deze emancipatie beïnvloedde ook kleding en geur. Met Tabac Blond (1919) maakten bloemige parfums plaats voor een rokerige tabaksnoot, passend bij vrouwen die werkten, broeken droegen en nieuwe vrijheden belichaamden.

The oak is a symbol of strength and resilience.
In Los Quetzales National Park (San Gerardo de Dota, Costa Rica), at an altitude of 2,595 meters, I encountered this Grandfather Oak (Quercus bumelioides). Staying in this primeval forest was a special and deeply healing experience.
Quercus bumelioides, known in Costa Rica as the Roble Blanco, holds practical, ecological, and medico-cultural significance within indigenous and rural traditions: as a healing plant, a source for forestry, and an ecological anchor in the mountain forests. The tree has the status of national cultural heritage and serves as a living symbol for sustainable forest practices – an embodiment of strength, old age, and the deep connection between man, nature, and tradition.
De eik is een symbool van kracht en veerkracht.
In het Los Quetzales Nationaal Park (San Gerardo de Dota, Costa Rica), op 2595 meter hoogte, ontmoette ik deze Grandfather Oak (Quercus bumelioides). Het verblijven in dit oerbos was een bijzondere en diep helende ervaring.
Quercus bumelioides, in Costa Rica bekend als de Roble Blanco, heeft binnen inheemse tradities een praktische, ecologische en medisch-culturele betekenis: als genezende plant, bron voor bosbouw en ecologisch anker in de bergwouden. De boom heeft de status van cultureel-nationaal erfgoed en vormt een levend symbool voor duurzame bospraktijken – een belichaming van kracht, ouderdom en de diepe verbondenheid tussen mens, natuur en traditie.

Concept
Water can change your perspective; it can create reflections, a lens to enlarge, make you see the world upside down. Going underwater as a metaphoric entry to our subconsciousness; in a same way as scent can make this happen. And find lost memories.
This olfactory tapestry ‘Water’ is an ode to all these aspects of water. Aromatic waters-hydrosols- are the other product of distilled plants. Where essential oils are extreme concentrated, hydrosols contain only 0,1% of EO. Still, the scents are indispecable recognizable. For this work, I created a fragrant composition with ‘water like’ properties; to meditate with open eyes and nose and follow a lead to inner wisdom.
